• Advance just won the Red Division Gold Bracket championship over Central (Park Hills) 25-20, 24-26, 25-22. It was the first loss for the Class 3 Rebels. The Hornets started the day with a 25-18, 23-25 split with Class 1 South Iron to wrap up pool play with a 4-2 record, coming out second in Pool B (Valle Catholic finished 5-1/first). In the pre-tournament action, Advance swept Class 4 Poplar Bluff 25-14, 25-18 which sent them to be paired up with Winona. The Hornets crushed the Wildcats 25-07, 25-07. Then they easily took care of SCAA Conference foe and Class 3 Dexter (25-12, 25-09) in the quarterfinals which sent them to face Class 3 Notre Dame (Cape Girardeau) in the semifinals with the defending Class 1 state champion Hornets once again coming out on top (25-19, 25-22) and then they played then-undefeated Class 3 Central (Park Hills) and won in three sets to clinch the championship. Congratulations to Coach Hoffman and the Advance Lady Hornets!

  Central (Park Hills) beat Valle Catholic in three sets 22-25, 25-19, 25-22 in the other semifinal. I don’t have scores but I know that Valle Catholic edged Saxony Lutheran in three sets to move into the semifinals and Notre Dame went three sets with St. Vincent to advance (to play Advance, ha).

  I’m not sure which teams came out on top in the Black Division. Hopefully we’ll have final scores soon.

• Leopold beat Bismarck in three sets 21-25, 26-24, 26-24 to win the Black Division Gold Bracket championship, per the Daily Journal Online (Farmington/Park Hills newspaper).

  Green Ridge beat Bunker 25-18, 25-20 to win the Black Division Silver Bracket championship.
