High School Football Forum: CAPE CENTRAL TIGERS

Posted by TheBigBarker on Sat, Nov 15, 2014, at 3:54 AM:

Congrats to the tigers on back-to-back state semi-finals appearances! It's amazing what this coaching staff has done considering the talent they lost last year. Keep it going tigers!!

I'm excited for the Tigers! They could truly be looking at a trip to the dome Nov 29th!! I'm excited for them to go up to St Charles West Friday the 21st and seal this deal! Go Tigers!

It will be a great game, hope the Tigers make it to the Dome!!

Isn't this Semifanal a rematch from earlier in the season?

-- Posted by WWE Guru on Sun, Nov 16, 2014, at 8:34 PM

Yes, Cape won by 20 I think!

The Cape Central Tigers defeat St. Charles West 41-21 Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 at Cape Central High School in Cape Girardeau.

Then Cape should win this one. They shouldn't take them lightly though because there is not only a trip to the Dome on the line there is also vindication on the line for St. Charles West after that early season loss. St. Charles West will be that much more hungry, Cape's got to be even more hungry.

Central (Cape) should be able to win this one. Not how relevant the score from August is, just because it was so long ago. But we at least know they were better at one point.

-- Posted by Lippy Radeck on Mon, Nov 17, 2014, at 12:01 PM
  • After the week 2 loss to Central, St. Charles West has won its last 11. St. Charles West defeated Ladue in this 11 game streak; Ladue has defeated both Central and Jackson.

I'm sure the coaching staff will be reminding the Central players that the week 2 game is long past, and keeping the focus on doing what Cape does best (IMO, running the football behind a physical line, which will open up the passing game if needed).

-- Posted by Pete Czeria on Mon, Nov 17, 2014, at 1:58 PM
  • *

Pete, you're right! It was long time ago. Ladue isn't impressive though. Cape was up 22-0 at half. Cape I better than Ladue, St Charles, and Jackson. I can't explain what happened 2nd half against Ladue but I'm convinced CT is better!

I'm convince Cape and their fans will be taking a trip to St. Louis on Thanksgiving weekend.

Lippy, since you've followed HS football for so long who and when was the last team from SEMO besides Valle that actually made it to the state championship? I do believe Central will get there!

-- Posted by JustSpeakingTheTruth on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 6:18 AM
  • NMCC or Hayti

-- Posted by Pete Czeria on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 6:36 AM
  • *

I think I remember NMCC going. I was playing college ball at the time so my mind was engrossed with a different world but I think it was around 94-96??? Somewhere in there. When did Hayti go? Was that a team with William Moore?

-- Posted by JustSpeakingTheTruth on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 6:47 AM
  • NMCC finished 2nd in 1999 or 2000.

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 6:53 AM
  • *

Hayti made it in the early eighties, '84, I believe. I think that Jackson made it to the dome in the early '90s.

-- Posted by STRAIGHTOUTTACHARLESTON on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 7:28 AM
  • *

Thanks, Charleston! I do believe I also remember Jackson going back in Nathan Norman's years as a player.

NMCC made it to the dome in 2001 and finished 2nd. I was a soph. on the team at the time.

-- Posted by Sports Rat on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 8:16 AM
  • Hayti was there in 2003 or 2004 I believe with William Moore.

-- Posted by BigBigBlue on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 9:30 AM
  • Truth, I don't understand how you can say Ladue isn't impressive when they're in the Class 5 semi-finals and they've beaten both Cape and Jackson. I have a feeling both Coach Norman and Coach Eckley would disagree with you!

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 9:30 AM

Yeah, I've thought since mid-season that Central would make it to the dome. Ste. Genevieve lost in 2003 to Harrisonville. Hayti lost in 2002 to Adrian. Jackson lost in 1994 (Excelsior Springs) and 1995 (Camdenton). Ste. Genevieve won in 1992, defeating Bolivar. NMCC lost in 2001 to Platte County. Hayti lost in 1984 to Knob Noster. Chafee won in 1983 over Norborne.

  • If Cape doesn't look past SCW, I see them taking this game. It will be interesting to see how they start this game. They need to start fast and get out on top early and make SCW throw the ball.

Preach, maybe I used the wrong words. Please forgive me, SIR. Ladue obviously knows how to win. What I meant is in comparison to Cape's ability vs Ladue I'll choose Cape any day! Their win over Cape was a good win but if I was a betting man on a rematch I'd definitely choose Cape!

-- Posted by JustSpeakingTheTruth on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 12:12 PM
  • How have Cape Centralph improved from last year's whipping by Webb in the semis?

    -- Posted by wcstl3001 on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 2:28 PM
  • I do believe St. Vincent went and won in the mid 2000's. Not sure on the year.

    -- Posted by trl1995 on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 2:31 PM
  • Ladue would beat any team in SEMO...oh wait, they already have.

Yes, trl1995, St. Vincent has been twice I think, lost one in the late 90's, then won one in '04, maybe? Also, North County got beat handily by Webb City in maybe '00 or '01.

-- Posted by Lippy Radeck on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 4:57 PM
  • It was 1997 when Webb beat North County 44-14 I believe was the final score.

    -- Posted by wcstl3001 on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 6:07 PM
  • The North County game was in '97. I remember NC scored the first and last points of the game and Webb scored 45 in between.

  • Josh Chapman set several MSHSAA records that day.

  • wcstl---Cape has a much better QB and better skill players than last year but it will still be a turbo clock no matter which team wins Friday. I'm not like Malden fans. I know what's coming. LOL.

  • The actual state championship for Class 4 is this week, Webb City vs. Kearney.

    -- Posted by Boogin77 on Tue, Nov 18, 2014, at 8:59 PM
  • And before Just Speaking the Truth decides to weigh in, be honest with yourself, can either East side representative (Cape or St. Charles West) beat either of the West teams? The answer is no, not a trick question.

CTFan, I agree! I don't know why people think that if one team is getting better that the other remains the same. We heard that all week when Malden played C'ville for the district championship as if Malden wasn't getting better too!

I'm not too sure how much of a given it will be that Webb City will be opposite Cape next Saturday. If you look at the history of Webb City in the playoffs the last time they lost a playoff game was in the 2009 semis and that was against eventueal state champions Kearney. Let's not get ahead of ourselves and say yeah Cape's playing Webb City because it could very well be Kearney on the other side.

-- Posted by WWE Guru on Fri, Nov 21, 2014, at 11:30 PM
  • It will be Webb. Cape has a passing game this year, though. That might be the key to competing at the Dome.

Congrats to all Cape fans and boosters.

It's still not a given. It could be Kearney.

I suppose whether Kearney or Webb City be the opponent, Cape Central will have 11 players on the field, willing to win, on every play.

The coaches and players have really proved their worthiness by taking care of business like no other team in Central history. The community is awful proud of the coaching staff who along with a hard working group of talented players has earned the right to play for a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in the Dome. Good luck Tigers!

-- Posted by MOvballfan on Sat, Nov 22, 2014, at 3:57 PM
  • Does Cape video webcast their games so I could watch one before next Saturday?

I have a really hard time believing Central is 46 pts better than last year at that time when Webb dominated them in the Semi's. Kearney is the best D we have seen all year and still put up 38 points. Only one team has scored 15 pts against Webb, even Class 5 Finalist Nixa and Class 6 Rockhurst couldn't score 15 on Webb. It's going to be uphill for Cape for sure.

    -- Posted by wcstl3001 on Sat, Nov 22, 2014, at 4:21 PM
  • You can check out hudl for highlights of each game. I'm not sure about full game though.

  • Central might be better than last year, but it's not by much. It will be an uphill battle like last year. I do expect Central to give you guys a better game than last year because of expierence.

    -- Posted by wcstl3001 on Sat, Nov 22, 2014, at 5:50 PM
