High School Basketball Forum: Key Games (Week of Dec. 15)

Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Mon, Dec 15, 2014, at 12:05 AM:

Hello Semoballers everywhere! Welcome back to the first edition of "Key Games," your one-stop place to shop for the best in high school basketball in Semo! Each week I will feature some of the "Key Games" in our area.

Exactly what constitutes a "Key Game"? I try to spotlight key conference and district games, tournament finals, big rivalries, and match-ups that feature some of the best teams and/or players in Semo squaring off. For example, Friday night's game between Malden and Scott Central which is a re-match of their thrilling championship game at the Oran Invitational and features two of the best players in Semo, Malden's Cortez Dobbins and SCC's Jeffrey Porter. That certainly qualifies as a "Key Game" to me!

There are several Christmas tournaments that kick off this week. For the boys, we have the Senath-Hornersville Christmas Tournament and Clarkton Holiday Tournament. Both events begin Monday night. For the girls, we have the 16-team Twin Rivers Lady Royals Christmas Classic which begins on Thursday, and the Kelso Supply Holiday Class at the Show-Me Center which kicks off on Wednesday night. We will update all of these tournaments as the week goes on.

Feel free to post scores and predictions here as the week goes on. Also by all means list games you believe I've overlooked or correct any mistakes I may've made. We welcome debate on "Key Games" but please remember to keep it on a high plane.

Unless otherwise noted, all games begin at 6:00 p.m. Be careful out there and be sure to go out and see some of these "Key Games"! See you next week!

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Mon, Dec 15, 2014, at 11:23 AM
  • The following schedule is based on the last two years, so it is my best guess, as I still haven't found any brackets for this year.

being tonight-- I heard they were Thursday night

    clarkton and Gosnel at 6

    Gideon and east Carter following

-- Posted by waveman on Tue, Dec 16, 2014, at 4:45 PM
  • Waveman, I took my info from the story by Cody Tucker in the DDD. Here's what he wrote in the article on the Senath-Campbell game:

"The Lions face off against the Chargers at 7 p.m. Tuesday night. Meanwhile, Armorel plays Neelyville in the other tournament semifinal at 8:30 p.m."

    I assume it's accurate?

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Tue, Dec 16, 2014, at 4:49 PM
  • I think that is correct about the Senath games-- but I thought the Clarkton semis were Thursday

-- Posted by waveman on Tue, Dec 16, 2014, at 4:56 PM
  • Lol. You're right waveman, I got the two tournaments confused. You may be right about the games at Clarkton. If you can confirm that, please post it here.

Dexter's coach is very passionate! He's a long time friend of mine and I know there's no quit in him. He'll instill that passion into his kids and they'll be tough to beat as he has the time to mold his upcoming players.

  • Agree with Doby. JSTT.. 70 - 19 ? I would be passionate also ....!!!

Was at the Woodland / Bernie game. A few thoughts.

Woodland must not have scouted Bernie.

Woodland must have had a bad night from the field.

They missed alot of open shots.

    Bernie is very well coached.

Other conclusions, I will keep to myself.

One more thought ... Best Buddies mentions Ellenburg more than cker23 mentions Woodland .

    to Best Buddies :

Before you constantly say hes the BEST player in the SCAA . Might want to watch a few more teams, and games.

  • Apparently, I was sitting in reserved seating at Sikeston, where there is no signs stating anywhere that there is reserved seating. An older lady came and asked me if I knew where I was sitting was reserved seating. I said, "No, there are no signs designating where I'm sitting as being reserved." She said, "Well, this is," in a nasty tone. I told her I would move, but I will be in touch with Sikeston AD, Andy McGill, about how rude she was.

FarmBoy06, be careful down there, they may ask you to move as well!

After I moved, I counted the number of people in the "pseudo-reserved" seating area. Fifty-five people there. I wasn't near anyone or bothering anyone. Ticked me off actually.

  • Was at the Bloomfield vs Advance game this evening. Advance looked really good against them tonight. Mayo looks good inside and Advance has a couple players that really looked good. Number 1 for Advance looks like he has a lit if tallent. Going to be a very good player. If I remember right the score was 64 to 42. I may be wrong but this game was over in the first half. There were a ton of fouls called on both teams. But it was a fairly called game. Can't wait until the Battle Royal of the Chistmas Tournanet which starts next Friday in Bloomfield.

Was anyone at the Bernie vs Bell City game tonight? I'll bet Bell City played a pretty good game against them. They have a very good young coach and he does a great job.

Preach, the bracket I have doesn't have seeds, and I'm not sure that there are seeds. I think it's just random seeds. It's a 16 team tournament, 8 small schools and 8 big schools (Chicago teams and such). NMCC is in the small school bracket and plays Herrin. The winner of the small school bracket then plays the winner if the big school bracket for tournament championship. I will see if I can get the bracket on my twitter page and then link it on here.
