I like Bernie this year but I don't know if they have done anything yet (emphasis on the yet) that differentiates them from Hayti or South Pem or Oran to such a great degree that I would consider them to be a top five team in Class 2 and the others not in the top ten. The game with Oran tonight should be a good step in illustrating just how good the team is though.

It should. The Bernie schedule usually is backloaded.

  • IMO Hayti, S Pem and Oran should be on the rankings along with Bernie. Why will they not ever do that?

Girls teams in SEMO and surrounding area: Naylor receiving votes in Class 1, Thayer receiving votes in Class 2, Saxony Lutheran and St. Pius X receiving votes in Class 3, Dexter #2 in Class 4 and Notre Dame receiving votes in Class 4.

  • There's not one team in the class 2 top 10 other than Salisbury that has 3 losses on the year and Salisbury beat Oran by double digits last year. Why should Oran be in the top 10?

  • UC I believe Salisbury lost at least 4 very good starters from last year. Tell me why they shouldn't?

-- Posted by BBfanatic on Wed, Jan 15, 2014, at 3:44 PM
  • Oran has 3 losses is my point.

-- Posted by Uncle Charlie on Wed, Jan 15, 2014, at 3:49 PM
  • Saxony Lutheran girls are others receiving votes? That class 3 girls must be loaded!

-- Posted by Duxzone on Wed, Jan 15, 2014, at 4:09 PM
  • Dexter girls are awesome

-- Posted by yaeger on Wed, Jan 15, 2014, at 4:58 PM
  • You can say that again!! especially when there's 2 superb players on the same team reaching that 1000 point goal , that's really awesome!!! Congrats to them.

-- Posted by Duxzone on Wed, Jan 15, 2014, at 5:18 PM
  • The same team, with the two 1000-point scorers, that will have to try to defeat (as of last week) the number one girls team in the USA Today top 25 poll, Incarnate Word Academy.

Yep, to bad they have to play a college team.

  • They just have to work harder and get better, according what I learned on football posts.

  • South Pemiscot and Scott County Central should be ranked higher in their respective classes.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Thu, Jan 16, 2014, at 2:23 AM
  • I think Sikeston is ranked too high in Class 4.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Thu, Jan 16, 2014, at 2:23 AM
  • Caruthersville should probably be ranked in Class 3.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Thu, Jan 16, 2014, at 2:24 AM
  • Is Gainesville as good as their record?

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Thu, Jan 16, 2014, at 2:28 AM
  • DaOldcat did Bernie surprise you? Oran did not win and especially they did not win big. Bernie is 12-1 and they definitely deserve to be ranked

Do you think Charleston should be ranked in Class 3 Dustin!?

-- Posted by BuckMajor on Thu, Jan 16, 2014, at 8:30 AM
  • Gainesville beat Thayer 69 to 63 so gainesville is probably pretty good.

-- Posted by BBfanatic on Thu, Jan 16, 2014, at 8:37 AM
  • What do you guys think about class 4 district 1 now? Even more open then before

Honestly I think it will be like last year where I think there can be 4 potential winners

  • Last year I felt like Sikeston was the heavy favorite. This years sikeston team seems to have some issues without ruffin

Wow, what a call, Dustin! Wait until Charleston knocks off Sikeston, then say you think they're ranked too high in Class 4. Sometimes, I don't think you have a clue!

-- Posted by birdfan on Thu, Jan 16, 2014, at 12:50 PM
  • birdfan

Wrong again. I think Sikeston will have a tough time getting out of its district. I've thought that all season.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Thu, Jan 16, 2014, at 1:26 PM
  • Dustin...Class 4, District 1 is arguably one of the toughest in the state. It will be played at Cape Central. I like Sikeston's chances, however.

    -- Posted by Rocket689 on Fri, Jan 17, 2014, at 6:40 AM
  • Sikes still favorite in that district but not as much as in last few years. Cape Central, ND and Kennett all capable of beating them. Will be a great district. ND and Kennett square off in Kennett tonight. Seeding that district will be interesting.

Dustin...just because a team may be in a competitive district does not preclude them from a high state ranking. You may be too young to remember but, for years, the winner of Class 3 District 1 was the eventual state champion and that was a very competitive district....when Charleston was winning state titles, some of its toughest games were in district play.

-- Posted by birdfan on Fri, Jan 17, 2014, at 7:52 AM
  • It doesn't matter to me where Sikeston is ranked right now as long as it is No. 1 at the end of the season.

Dustin, if Sikeston is ranked too high right now, which teams should be ahead of them? I haven't had the opportunity to see all the Class 4 teams in the state. They are due to drop in the rankings anyway following a loss so you are partly right....for the moment.

  • But hey Delta C-7 is having a historic season that one has to admire according to Dustin

I wonder how much Jackson/Sikeston will move after that game.
