High School Basketball Forum: Week of 2/6/12 Scores

Posted by No sir on Mon, Feb 6, 2012, at 8:41 PM:

Holcomb 54 North Pem 51. Holcomb in total control the majority of the game. Took an 11 point lead into the fourth quarter only to see Macklin get locked in and lead North Pem on a run to tie game at 45. Aaron Reeves hits a 3 pointer in the closing seconds for the win. The second such dagger Reeves has delivered against a quality opponent this year. Hornets are Tri County Regular Season Champs with a perfect record in conference play.

Caruthersville is led in scoring by 2 sophomores with Monroe and Johnson both with 11 points, we are going to need others to step up. Too many turnovers, not controlling could be rebounds and falling asleep on the back side of the press.

It will not Cheesey, they have lost 6 out of 9 and they are not showing much improvement in those losses. I think there is not much chemistry here, Monroe is having to do to much and we are outsized every game no matter who we are playing. I don't think they have that fire in them anymore.

Other than Johnson and Monroe, no one else plays consistent enough. I've seen this team play great and now it just seems they gave up and are ready for football next year. It's really frustrating. I know how good they can be is what makes this hard.

Neither Sikeston or Charleston are as good as Sikeston or SCC was last year but they can both win state titles. Last year was a really strong one in the area with Sikeston and SCC both being amongst the five best teams in the state.

Maybe not but it is going to take a great team to beat one of them. Charleston is a lock for the title game in Class 3. Not saying they will win, but tell me a team in the state that will stop them from getting to the title game? Sikeston is just in a tough district but they should be the favorites to get out of that district

Last year we had a definite scoring threat in Vohland Fonda, we had 2 bigger threats inside with Monroe and Taylor, Jamal Johnson and Darrell Monroe were both Freshmen last year and had to step up early...Steve Rodgers played on JV last year and led them in scoring over the season..I was hoping at the beginning of the year that he would fill V. Fondas shoes in the scoring department but he is to inconsistent. I know we are young, have no bench but we should still play alot better than what we are, too many turnovers, not rebounding well and missing stuff that should be automatic EVERY GAME..I have no idea where the problem lays with this team but they need a serious overhaul.

  • Sectionals will not be a cake walk for the class 4 district 1 winner. Desoto can beat anyone on a given night. The key is how well their big guys play and keep Jared White penetrating and creating open looks. That being said, I would favor the district 1 champion to advance to the quarterfinals.

    -- Posted by deckerd31 on Tue, Feb 7, 2012, at 9:04 PM
  • Matt Eaves, Marquis Meekie and Bubby Schwent. Not sure of story, but as I heard it no injuries. Sam Turner was also out today.

    -- Posted by bluemules89 on Tue, Feb 7, 2012, at 9:10 PM
  • As Rachel said Cape beat Jackson 60-51. The game was within two possessions for a lot of the second half but it never really felt close, at least to me it didn't. I'm pretty sure Jackson's biggest lead was 9-7 in the first quarter. We had some stretches where we made some unforced turnovers and a couple dumb fouls that allowed them to stick around but we played well enough to keep the lead. I don't remember exactly when Cox came out of the game but we played the majority, if not all, of the 4th quarter with him on the bench.

  • Found the Dexter score. They beat Bell City 94-45. That's ten wins in a row plus the SCAA regular season conference championship to go with the tourney championship. Congrats to Coach Rob Nichols and the Bearcats!

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Tue, Feb 7, 2012, at 10:41 PM
  • @FarmBoy06: Charleston not world beaters this year? We are 21-1---won three tournaments, ranked #1 in Class 3 for most of the season. Our only loss came to a tough West Memphis squad. We had an off night tonight, played the majority of the game with our subs and still won by 49. What more do you want?

    -- Posted by bluejay_fan_natic20 on Tue, Feb 7, 2012, at 10:47 PM
  • I hope everyone will calm down about Hayti now. Geeze.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Tue, Feb 7, 2012, at 11:07 PM
  • Bluejay..i think Charleston is recognized as the #1 class 3 team in Missouri. You certainly have my vote, hands down. I just hope that when you come to play us (Doniphan), you under estimate us and don't come ready to play.

    -- Posted by Wesman100 on Tue, Feb 7, 2012, at 11:18 PM
  • Cheesehead, Beef, I hate to ask, but how bad did Caruthersville lose to Meridian Tuesday night? Also, I heard Coach Heeb suspended some players. Is that true?

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Wed, Feb 8, 2012, at 12:29 AM
  • @Wesman100 Could happen. I remember one of our state runs a few years ago----Doniphan beat us by like 30 in the regular season, but we got them at sectionals. This is a very special Bluejay team. I have lived in Charleston for eight years and this is the best Charleston team I have seen since I have lived here (in my never so humble opinion)

    -- Posted by bluejay_fan_natic20 on Wed, Feb 8, 2012, at 7:14 AM
  • It won't matter if the Jays under estimate them or not Doniphan has no and i mean no chance to beat the Jays!!!

I really couldn't tell you. I left at halftime, I refuse to watch what's going on with this team right now. Last I heard on the radio was we were down by 22, then I just stopped listening to it all together. I know Cville has had a very tough schedule and they are very young but there is more to it than that. Just no team chemistry anymore for some reason. I'm not sure some guys even want to be on the court. Hopefully things get worked out but as of right now, it's looking like a long shot.

    Is this stat accurate?

Bernie finished the game 31 of 37 from the free throw line and Hayti shot nine of 12 from the charity stripe.

If so WOW!!! How can one team shot that many free throws in a game and a few people not foul out? Also, shot 25 more free throws than Hayti? I see where the game was won lol. Props to Bernie for shooting great from the line though. You'd be surprised how bad some teams can be.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Feb 8, 2012, at 9:00 AM
  • Cheesehead:

yes that is correct. I feel Bernie could have won 3 of the 7 games they have lost if they had just hit their free throws. Last night that changed and I believe Bernie is heading in a good direction moving toward district play.

  • Chelco, I caught a replay of that game on yhctv last night. Gideon was very impressive in the 2nd half in all phases of the game. I was sorry to learn they lost a starter with a broken nose. If he can come back soon, they can make some noise come the TCC tourney and districts!
