High School Basketball Forum: Most state titles in Missouri basketball

Posted by B-ball-fan on Mon, Jan 23, 2012, at 10:14 PM:

Just wanted to see if any of you guys or girls knew who had most state titles and the second and third most. Maybe you ppl would quit acting like a bunch of kids and just be glad that southeast Missouri has the most. Maybe pay a lil more respect to the teams oh idk like scc and charleston because they are the too best basketball powers in the state IMO and that they only are just about 30 miles or so apart. Thanks for checking this out.

I don't think anyone doesn't respect Charleston or SCC.. At least any true SEMO fan.. Their titles speak for themselves

So...how much longer till MSHSAA passes that rule where past state titles decide if you've got a shot at winning this year? I know how much support that plan has.

  • Well.... I just thought I'd see how long it'd take to hook a fish on the line and I got a couple of bites. Just wanted to change the topic and see where it went from here. Oh and number of titles will never determine who wins because if it did all of you would be wearing blk and org. Heck it's all in fun isn't it or do y'all just take it that serious.

Would charleston be 2nd!? Weren't some of those Vashon titles taken away!? Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • I just thought your not smart enough to use a search engine!!

-- Posted by igobybob on Mon, Jan 23, 2012, at 10:34 PM
  • No I knew who it was and I didn't have to look it up unlike u who did!

    -- Posted by B-ball-fan on Mon, Jan 23, 2012, at 10:37 PM
  • Charleston didnt win one in 2006; they wont it in 2007

    -- Posted by bluejay_fan_natic20 on Tue, Jan 24, 2012, at 6:48 AM
  • I don't think they won in 04 either. Think they got 2nd or 3rd but they did win in 89 or 90 I think that's the year they were 33-0.

You're looking at it wrong. Those are Vashon's titles.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Tue, Jan 24, 2012, at 10:04 AM
  • He has them listed as this,

    Charleston

    10

    1975, 1980, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1996, 2007

You guys are confusing the post by thinking he has the names of the teams listed below the years, but instead it is the opposite.

Buck you are correct. Vashon was striped of three titles.

-- Posted by I.P. Freely on Tue, Jan 24, 2012, at 10:13 AM
  • SCC 15, Charleston 10, Pville 5, and I think Cape Notre Dame has 3 and NMCC also has 3. Lots of good basketball in SEMO.

  • Looks like the jays may bring home another title for their collection. Hope the semo area represent well again this year as last year!

I wouldn't count SCC out, just yet. Just because they aren't having an amazing season doesn't mean they won't make noise in the playoffs. I wouldn't even say Risco is the favorite to get out of SEMO. Both teams have proven they are far from invincible at various points of the season.

    -- Posted by yah-yah on Sat, Jan 28, 2012, at 7:45 AM
  • Well I think charleston has it won already and for sikeston and the other semo hopefuls it's gonna be a lil bit harder but good luck to them all.

    -- Posted by B-ball-fan on Sat, Jan 28, 2012, at 9:43 AM
  • It is Unbelievable that 6 of the Teams on this List are Private Schools.

1)Vashon 2)Cardinal Ritter 3) Christian Brothers 4) St. Francis Borgia 5) Desmet and 6) St. Louis University High.

Does this mean the Private Schools work harder and produce better athletes?

Or, Does this mean that the Private Schools have Operated at a Competitive Advantage for Years and should be Separated from Public Schools in State Competition?

Don't think Vashon is a private school; part of the St Louis public school system

Yeah, Floyd Irons thought the same thing UFO did in regards to Vashon and did jailtime because of it.

  • Birdfan,

    My Bad, Vashon is Public.

-- Posted by UFO on Mon, Jan 30, 2012, at 11:54 AM
  • Bird Fan,

Apparently Ole Floyd could recruit eh???? That is Funny!!!

Shame on him. He should have known Publics must operate under separate rules!

    Cheers

-- Posted by UFO on Mon, Jan 30, 2012, at 5:07 PM
  • Well correct me if I'm wrong but cant private schools recruit kids to play sports. If so that just makes the public schools much better when they play them and win state titles bc they make due with what they got and it shows here in semo area. We play harder and better!

    -- Posted by B-ball-fan on Mon, Jan 30, 2012, at 8:24 PM
  • B-Ball-Fan,

Your are Correct. Private Schools get Kids from Everywhere.

Many of the Pro-Athletes in St. Louis send their Kids to John Burroughs and Cardinal Ritter. These Schools compete at the Class 3 level. They use to compete at the Class 2 level. These Schools often go untouched in Football, because the Class 3 Schools do not have enough talent to compete.

Like most of our Society it comes down to Money. The lower middle class and lower class families have no Choice but to send their kids to the Free Public Schools.

These kids may be surrounded by talent and may not. They can work as hard as they want but, work ethic alone doesn't bring in 6'5" inch kids in Basketball or 290 pound linemen in Football.

I used to be thoroughly in support of separating private and public championships. Then, my team won a title and you realize how much more of a sense of accomplishment it is to beat a couple privates along the way. It is more of a mental barrier than it is one that actually stands in the way of a team and is also an automatic excuse. The rules are fine where they are. You don't need a 6'5" kid to win state. Ask Sikeston from last year. A well-coached team of skilled players can win it all, private or public.

  • Sideline,

Maybe so, but not as often.

Private schools make up a fraction of all Missouri Schools, but Win an alarming Percentage of State Titles.

-- Posted by UFO on Tue, Jan 31, 2012, at 3:53 AM
  • @joekool I think Scott County Central will still beat who ever wins Class 1 district 1

The use of the word "alarming" in this context tells me everything I need to know.

-- Posted by Captain Awesome on Tue, Jan 31, 2012, at 6:40 AM
  • Just BC scc got loses doesnt mean risco can beat them and win state we lost to big schools 2 class 7 schools at the riverbend a very talented class 4 competitor in Notre Dame twice and a good class 5 cenral tigers and state champion bound Charleston bluejays what quality teams have risco played or any other class 1 teams....just BC we got losses its not the same type level teams we playing if we was only playing the lions tigers and bears ooohhh my we'll have a outstanding record also...but only time will tell

-- Posted by slkrik on Tue, Jan 31, 2012, at 8:46 AM
  • Captain Awesome,

Alarming = A Warning of Existing or Approaching Issues.

Thanks a million, UFO, but I'm familiar with the word. As long as we're looking things up, it's also a synonym for "frightening", "distressing", and "upsetting." I'll restate my previous comment: The use of the word "alarming" in this context tells me everything I need to know.
