High School Basketball Forum: B.J. Young out of control?

Posted by wolfwoman on Tue, Jan 25, 2011, at 10:08 AM:

I recently read a post on Stl prep sports that revealed another technical foul by Arkansas signee B.J. Young. The "T" was called because of a punch landed by Young to the back of the head of a player during the first loss of the season for Mc North. Remember the Cape Shootout and his "Phantom" punch to John Meyer? What are his chances for success at the next level?

  • Sounds like a headcase

  • If he played for my team he would be done for the season after the 2nd time, as far as the next level it will probably be just a matter of time before he is in trouble either on the court or off.

  • Yeah, the team they lost to was Belleville West. The article said with forty-nine seconds left in the game he was being blocked out and landed a punch behind the right ear.

  • Given that he has history of problems on and off the court none of this is surprising.

There's video of the incident here: http://www.ihigh.com/bellevilleeast/broadcast_140094.html?silverlight=1 (You have to click to the end of the first video for it to automatically advance to the second half. The incident happens around the 34 minute mark of the second video.) It's tough to tell exactly what happened, but based on the reaction of the player that was hit, it looks like Young landed a pretty good shot to the back of the head.

With two ejections in a month, I'd expect to hear a suspension come down from the MSHSAA office. Although, since the second incident happened out of state, it may slip through the cracks for a while.

McCluer North was down by 8 or so in the last minute of the game. Young had already received one technical foul earlier in the game. The flagrant foul called was also Young's 5th foul of the game.

  • so chances are that he was frustrated throughout the game.
