Must be Jackson fans placing Jackson over Cape and Charleston. I’ll go with indian73’s poll

@birdfan must be Central fans placing a team who didn't win thier district over teams who went farther in the playoffs. Doesn't matter what happened during the season if you can't win when it really counts.

  • Sikeston should be ahead of cape also. Regular season is meaningless.

  • A) Its always very difficult to make an end of season poll across different classes.

    B) As pointed out with differing opinions above, how do you rank a team that was the best team in the area all season but got upset in their district like Cape?

If you follow college basketball, its the same with a team like Purdue. After the season is over, how do you rank them? They were a top 5 team in the country all year, but lost one game to a bad team so are they suddenly so much worse that they're out of the top 25? Would you rank Fairleigh Dickinson above them? I would say no, but that's the great thing about polls. They are completely subjective.

  • CapeC went undefeated in semo conf reg season and tourney champions. They are clearly the seasons end #1 team in the area. The upset loss to Sikeston in district title game is not enough to take this away from them!

  • @Birdfan not a fan of Jackson. However they beat Charleston 2 out of 3 times so clearly Jackson is better than Charleston this season. Now on this poll, I just ranked teams on how they finished the entire season aka into the playoffs. But I'll agree with Indian73, Cape was the best REGULAR season team hands down in the area and state.

Jackson beat Charleston when Charleston was short handed. When Charleston was at full strength, they man-handled Jackson at Jackson.

  • To stir up some more controversy, here is my Way-Too-Early SEMO Conference Rankings (subject to change based on personnel and coaching changes):

    3. Sikeston

    4. Charleston

    5. Jackson

    6. PB

    7. ND

    8. Kennett

    9. Dexter

Top 3, for sure; 4,5 and 6 could probably be interchangeable

-- Posted by birdfan on Wed, Mar 22, 2023, at 6:12 PM
  • Quote me in this! Charleston will be better next year their guard position will be so deep and we will finally see what a load Owens really is!

  • Rumor has it Charleston could be losing PJ

-- Posted by Highschoolsports on Thu, Mar 23, 2023, at 7:29 PM
  • Word around Jackson is both Jadis Jones & Farmer will be Indians next year. Is that what you're referring to?

    -- Posted by SportsFan573 on Thu, Mar 23, 2023, at 8:49 PM
  • Hah there’s no way

    -- Posted by cd23 on Thu, Mar 23, 2023, at 10:38 PM
  • Jadis and NMCC should have a shot at a repeat state title next season

We heard that rumor about PJ leaving, last year, too. Didn’t happen.

-- Posted by birdfan on Fri, Mar 24, 2023, at 11:46 AM
  • I hear a rumor about a Charleston player leaving almost every year idk why only that school I doubt it happens too

-- Posted by Highschoolsports on Fri, Mar 24, 2023, at 12:27 PM
  • No way Cape Central is #1 when they greatly underachieved. They couldn't even win their district. It doesn't matter what they did in the regular season, they couldn't get in done in the postseason, when it matters. They must not have been playing their best ball, and Jackson and NMCC obviously were, as was South Iron.

I'd also put Caruthersville ahead of Cooter and Saxony.

-- Posted by Sandinista on Fri, Mar 24, 2023, at 3:09 PM
  • Sandinista I agree Cville ahead of cooter and saxony.. I simply forgot all about them! I agree somewhat about CapeC not worthy of #1 due to upset loss to Sikeston in district final but felt it should not define their season and the dominance they displayed throughout the season. Most would agree they were the #1 team around!

  • Jadis and NMCC should have a shot at a repeat state title next season

    -- Posted by indian73 on Fri, Mar 24, 2023, at 6:56 PM
  • Agreed Indian. They bring back the dynamic duo of Jadis and BJ Williamson. AJ Ruff and Kayden Minner also return. I believe the only starter graduating is Brayden Newson whose size will be missed. I don’t know who they have coming up, but that’s a very solid core

NMCC had another big that came off the bench, a sophomore, I believe, and played effectively. They should be favored to repeat.

-- Posted by birdfan on Mon, Mar 27, 2023, at 6:26 AM
  • Yep birdfan the NMCC soph is 6’5” with good skills. Another 6’2” wide body soph on roster could also step up to fill a role. Between the 2 they should provide an adequate replacement for Newsom. But who knows another kid might just emerge into the spot. Never know from year to year.
