  • Meaning for that to happen both teams will have to advance past sectionals. Which for Greenville would be very exciting

  • Class 2 is very strong in southeast Missouri. I hate it that only one area team gets to make it to Columbia. Whoever makes it out of here should get the title if their pitching is in good shape.

-- Posted by yaeger on Sun, Apr 24, 2016, at 8:23 AM
  • After 13 innings the reporter left for the day. Sad but true.

-- Posted by baseball rocks on Sun, Apr 24, 2016, at 10:03 AM
  • Yes I would like to read an article about how Bernie beat Sikeston. How does that happen if they can't win the SCAA tournament?

    -- Posted by Devildog76 on Sun, Apr 24, 2016, at 11:11 AM
  • Different days, different pitchers, players feeling different (i.e. Injuries, etc.) different umpires. All of these things factor in.

Players aren't automatons, and we don't live in a perfect world.

    There's your answer.

-- Posted by Slim shady on Sun, Apr 24, 2016, at 11:25 AM
  • Is that box score right that Bernie had 8 errors against Cape?

-- Posted by crackerjack on Sun, Apr 24, 2016, at 3:24 PM
  • Devildog, looks like those smaller schools are just better at baseball, bell city is the #1 team in class 1

-- Posted by yaeger on Sun, Apr 24, 2016, at 5:24 PM
  • Do your own writeup on the game and post it here. A Caruthersville fan used to do that for Cville football games years ago.

I don't think it's reasonable to ask a reporter to spend 10 hours at a ballpark to cover three games on a Saturday. They have families and lives too you know.

-- Posted by semohoops on Sun, Apr 24, 2016, at 11:08 PM
  • Poplar Bluff 4 Farmington 2

    Poplar Bluff 6 Oakville 7

PB drops to 20-4 on season.

    -- Posted by bluffguy697 on Mon, Apr 25, 2016, at 6:14 AM
  • Yes crackerjack Bernie had 8 errors. The worst game they've played all year. Was tied 1 to 1 going into the 6th! Then the wheels fell of. Bounced backed and beat a good Sikeston team. Baseball is baseball anyone can beat anyone on any given day.

    -- Posted by ealge97 on Mon, Apr 25, 2016, at 6:57 AM
  • Oakville defeats Poplar Bluff in a close one. The problem is, Oakville is not even ranked in the top 10 for St. Louis area.

Bradley Wallace with walk off grand slam

-- Posted by Portageville on Tue, Apr 26, 2016, at 6:32 PM
  • How do you hit a walk off grand slam and the score ends up 16-3, please explain

-- Posted by yaeger on Tue, Apr 26, 2016, at 7:36 PM
  • score could be 12-3 they're home team and they ten run them with a grand slam.

-- Posted by basketballfanatic on Tue, Apr 26, 2016, at 8:02 PM
  • Yaeger as many games as Bernie has won, you'd know there is a 10 run rule in high school baseball. It is nothing new. Portageville was up 12-3 in bottom of the 5th with bases loaded and hitter batted a grand slam which gave them 10+ run lead.

-- Posted by Portageville on Tue, Apr 26, 2016, at 8:54 PM
  • Agree with Yeager. That is not considered a "walk off" win

-- Posted by crackerjack on Tue, Apr 26, 2016, at 10:27 PM
  • Not sure how it's not. Game ended because of the result of that play. Like if that wouldn't of happened, they would've entered the 6th inning...

-- Posted by Portageville on Tue, Apr 26, 2016, at 10:46 PM
  • I would like to see a rematch between Sikeston and Bell City on a neutral field with neutral umpires. The game is on video and the calls behind the plate were absolutely absurd. It would be a great game to watch.

    -- Posted by MommaBear92 on Tue, Apr 26, 2016, at 11:09 PM
  • Wow. You just lost all credibility with your statement, momma bear. So your Cubs have NEVER been the recipient of calls that favored your team this season? You probably need to rephrase your statement. Neutral field? A field plays the same for both teams.

Your cubbies have played enough games in different conditions (state playoffs, summer ball) that a field should not affect them.

You come across as bitter. Perhaps you didn't get enough sleep this winter.

-- Posted by Slim shady on Wed, Apr 27, 2016, at 5:39 AM
  • Or perhaps they got consistently HOSED and she has a valid point. Idk I wasn't there and don't care. Just saying....

    -- Posted by BlueDad1 on Wed, Apr 27, 2016, at 10:01 AM
  • I'll tell you what, even Sikeston Little League Baseball back in my day was shady in their tournaments against other towns. Favoritism was rampant for Sikeston. I am not at all surprised to hear the Bell City fan complaining.

-- Posted by Slammer on Wed, Apr 27, 2016, at 1:25 PM
  • Let me ask this again to make myself clear. You don't think there has been any game this year where Bell City hasn't been on the good side of an umpire's calls?? Was the Sikeston game the only time they were shrifted?

Having said that, the quality of umpires can vary greatly.

I just think it's a little irresponsible to make the type of claim that momma bear did.

Who knows what might have happened differently in other close games they have had?

    It's all conjecture, anyhow.

-- Posted by Slim shady on Wed, Apr 27, 2016, at 2:10 PM
  • It's mostly subjective, so you have to watch the video and see if there were blatant calls against Bell City. No need to comment any further for anyone unless you were there or can see it in the video.

-- Posted by Slammer on Wed, Apr 27, 2016, at 2:30 PM
  • Since MommaBear 92 says there's video, please post a link to said video. I, along with others, would like to watch.

  • SP 5 Portageville 3

Coach House does a phenomenal job of getting a lot out of players.

-- Posted by Portageville on Wed, May 4, 2016, at 6:52 PM
  • Torrey having to throw 10 innings Monday really put P'Ville in a hole. That being said, I think it's probably been a while since the #7 seed won the tournament!

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Wed, May 4, 2016, at 7:59 PM
  • Have to disagree. Portageville's pitching wasn't the problem today.

    -- Posted by ballfan892 on Wed, May 4, 2016, at 8:31 PM
  • If Torrey gave up only one run in 10 innings, it's conceivable he could have prevented at least some of the scoring today, unless several errors were involved..

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Wed, May 4, 2016, at 8:46 PM
  • There were several errors.

    -- Posted by ballfan892 on Wed, May 4, 2016, at 9:22 PM
  • Then, you're probably correct, unless he (Torrey) could have gotten strikeouts in key situations. However, huge congratulations to South Pemiscot. Also, I was very impressed with how well Campbell competed "without seniors" (senior trip). A real shame it would be scheduled during the week of the conference tournament!

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Wed, May 4, 2016, at 10:24 PM
  • "Several" errors? Box score showed only 2 errors for each team.

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Thu, May 5, 2016, at 11:36 AM
